What is a light-up (LED) wristband, and what does it do at your event?

An LED wristband is a silicone-strapped device holding an RGB LED, a battery and a wireless receiver. Its value is not in one band but in the whole crowd: on a command from a central transmitter, thousands of bands show the same colour and effect within milliseconds of each other, turning the audience into an extension of the stage lighting.

There is nothing for the wearer to set up — they simply put the band on. Colour, brightness, effect and timing are driven by the operator throughout the event. In professional shows the system patches into the lighting console over DMX and effects are written into the show’s timecode.

Light-up wristband, LED bracelet, glow wristband, remote-controlled wristband — they all describe the same product. In the events industry, a light-up wristband is not the chemical stick that glows for a few hours once you snap it; it is an LED band that switches on and off by remote, changes colour instantly and runs in sync with the show. The difference is the one between a single-use accessory and a lighting system the stage controls.

Why buying makes sense

The wristband is reusable equipment, not a single-use consumable. Batteries are replaceable, straps come off and can be renewed, and the same inventory goes back out all season. For clubs with a weekly programme, sports clubs playing a full season and agencies producing many events a year, the cost pays for itself after the first few events.
